Hello My Name Is...
I hope that you are as excited as I am about the opportunities that your child will have to take a wonderful adventure in 7th grade social studies. Though history, economics, cultures, political science and geography take up much of my professional and personal time I must confess that the Arizona standards for teaching this grade are among my favorite and I cannot wait to share them with my new students.
First, allow me to introduce myself and my briefly describe my qualifications for this important task. I am an accomplished trainer and business developer for several Fortune 500 companies, including the Ryder System and The Walt Disney Company as well as a couple of smaller organizations who are leaders in their prospective fields. In 2004, I decided to leave corporate America and return to school full time to get my degree in education so that I could do what I have always wanted to do, teach social studies to children. During my summers, I was a camp director responsible for the fun, safety and well being of both the campers as well as a counselor and specialist staff which consisted of mostly college students. After graduating with honors, I worked for Walt Disney World as a trainer for their College and International Student internship program which was made up of about 7,500 students from the U.S. and around the world who lived and worked at Walt Disney World while pursuing Disney sponsored classes, mostly in hospitality and management
In 2009, I took a position as a 6th, 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher at a school in Tucson. I also taught the elective of Investing and Entrepreneurship during my second year there. The opportunity became available to teach in Bullhead City, a smaller community, and I decided that it would be fantastic. My outside interests include traveling, both in the U.S. as well as internationally, cooking, film and golf. I am also a musician and sound engineer.
Enough about me; you must be interested in what your child will be learning in my classroom this year. What follows is a concise syllabus for 7th grade social studies.
